Free Community Class: Frontier Herbalism: Traditional Herbalism Practices in Western Pennsylvania

Join Dana Driscoll from the Pennsylvania School of Herbalism to learn about how people in previous centuries used plants for medicinal purposes in our ecosystem.  We will cover a number of plants growing in our ecosystem that have been used as traditional medicine, including sassafras, black birch, willow, plantain, comfre,y and hawthorn.  We will also have a chance to meet these plants and trees and learn about their identification, core medicinal uses, and make medicine from some of them.  Participants will have a chance to make several traditional plant preparations, including poultices, tinctures, and salves.  An optional donation for $5 for supplies.

This event is being offered free to the community and in conjunction with the Indiana County 1776 speaker series and the Indiana County Friends of the Parks.

Location: Yellow Creek State Park (Indiana County), Woodland Pavilion

Time: 5-7pm

This class offers 1 credit of medicine making as part of the Pennsylvania School of Herbalism’s Certificate Program.
